NEW SCHOOL YEAR- NEW HSA BOARD!

We can’t believe its almost that time again- BACK TO SCHOOL!

The Home and School Association board has already met this summer to go over ALL of the fun and exciting events and activities we have planned for the 2018/2019 school year!

Please be sure to Save the Date for our first HSA meeting which will take place on Monday, September 10th at 7pm in the St. Teresa Gym.

For all the new parents to STS, welcome to STS!  This first meeting is very important and we hope you can attend!  This meeting is where you will get to meet all the HSA board members, receive tons of information on the events and activities like the 3 day Christmas Fair, the Parent/Child events, and more!  Also, this is where you will get a chance to mingle with other parents in your child(rens) class as well as nominate or run for Class Parent!

So enjoy the last bit of summer and we hope to see everyone on the first day of school at the HSA Welcome table and at our HSA meeting!

HSA Meeting, Tuesday, May 29th, 2018

Monsignor Belford- Welcome to Seminarian Robert Carolan, whom you can call BROTHER BOBBY, who will be with us at STS for a ten week internship at our parish. Brother Bobby has just finished his first year at Saint Joseph Seminary, in the Dunwoodie section of Yonkers.

President Brian Lyons: Last meeting for the year so thank you to all those that have attended.

Financial statement- shows that we have had a decent year- we matched our numbers from last year for a total of $52k with all the HSA fundraising events – this does not include any of the school fundraising.

The school years Dine Out’s brought in around $2k in fundraising!

Basket auction- we raised $15k in one night- it was a lot of work but was a great time and it raises a lot of money for the school!

Two events coming up-

Field Day, Friday, June 1st

We need volunteers – let us know ASAP, we can use all the help we can get.  All 240 students will be coming out to participate! Colors- wear your color from head to toe.

Send in water and towel with your child.  Lunch provided by Holy Name Society- usually hamburgers, hot dogs, etc.  We will be providing the DJ, an Ice Cream truck, and all field day activities.

If you can arrive by 8am to start with setting up, we would appreciate it.

This year, the winning team will get the chance to duct tape the principal to the wall! We hope to finish at 1:00pm/1:30pm- with the winning team who will line up and duct tape Principal Simione to the wall.

Last event- this Saturday at 7pm in the gym is the Spring Luau – Free event for all STS Parents which includes- Band and food! BYOB

We will be reaching out to all those that have signed up for field day for this Friday, with their assigned station and instructions. If you would like to sign up to volunteer, contact us at stteresahsa@gmail.com and we will assign you an area for Friday.

 

Looking Forward- Soon to be President Allison Cudy thanked everyone and is looking forward to starting this new school year as president with her team. They are looking forward to working with everyone, having fun and lots of great ideas.

This coming Monday – Report cards will be released for Quarter 3- so be sure to log into the system and check them. Contact the office if you have any issues.

Thank you to those who have agreed to run for the upcoming new HSA board.

Thank you to the HSA board for all their hard and all they have done for the school, especially President Brian Lyons. Everyone please congratulate him for winning the Golden Cross award for his dedication and hard work to the school and sports teams.

Strive for Five

We will be submitting a list to Principal Simione of the families that have yet to provide the 5 volunteers hours. If you still want to sign up to volunteer, contact Jennifer via email for opportunities. You can email Jennifer at puca112@verizon.net to sign up or find out how many hours you need to fulfill. If you cannot physically volunteer we have other options:

We need people to bundle raffle tickets for the Basket Auction– 1 hour per roll
Box of Straws- 1 box = 2 hours
Wrapping of Baskets on 4/19- after 4pm= 1 hour
Set Up on 4/19 at 4pm

Volunteer for the evening on 4/20= 6pm till end of basket auction- over 5 hours

We need baked goods- so for anyone that can bring trays of cupcakes, brownies, cookies, for 4/20 you can earn 1 hour of volunteer time.

Dine out nights- have been going well-

Jimmy Max- $530 they gave 50% of all food purchases. We have about $1200 raised from dine out events.

Spring Raffle started this week- we will be sending out notifications on winners weekly.

Update on air conditioning:

Newest estimate states that the project will need another $600k to complete air conditioning renovation.

The Renew Rebuild Campaign provided $450k to St. Teresa’s. Those funds have fixed the roof, parts of the gym, paid for surveys, some planning and funds to con ed.

$200k remains that will be used in stages- 1st we will bring electric power into building. Fundraising for the gym air conditioning $100k, then wiring for $100k.

Next phase would be the school air conditioning.

We will apply for grants as well as traditional fundraising activities.

Strive for Five- Contact Jenn Costello, jpuca112@verizon.net, if you need to know how many hours you have left.  We have easy ways to complete those hours- volunteer at upcoming events, stuff straws for Basket Auction.  If you do not complete the 5 hours by the end of April, the charge will be applied to your May tuition. If you do end up volunteering after that date, then your account will be refunded.

Looking back-

Grandparents day- This year was better then last year but minor things can still be improved.

Father daughter dance was another success. Pictures are available and will be sent out to all classes.

Penny Wars- was a very successful fundraising event- a bit chaotic, but overall worthwhile. We raised over $3k from this event.

Basket Auction- April 20th– 2nd Biggest Fundraiser for us.  We need donations- Lotto tickets, gift certifications, wish list items, etc.  Volunteers are needed to sign up for that evening as well as for set up which normally takes place the day before and the day of.  Straws need stuffing.  Tables of 6 or more can be reserved now by emailing us at StTeresaHSA@GMAIL.COM

Spring Raffle- You were already charged a $100 Spring Raffle fee.  Beginning on or around April 9th until June 1st, every day a winner is called and that monetary amount is awarded to the family. Range from $25-$100.

Then, come June 2nd to the Spring Fling Hawaiian Luau! No admission cost!  BYOB we provide the DJ and Light Fare. Grand raffle prizes will be called-  $250, $500 and $1000 winners. Winner need not be present.

On behalf of the 2016-2018 HSA Executive Board:
As you may be aware, this June will conclude the term of the current Executive Board and Committee Members. We are officially requesting nominations for the
2018-2020 St. Teresa Home and School Association Executive Board and Committee Members.

Who is eligible to become an official Executive Board Member or Committee Member?
In order to hold a position on the HSA, nominate someone for office or cast a ballot to vote an HSA member , you must have attended at least two regular meetings from September through the March meetings of the year of the elections as well as volunteered at least 5 hours.
What are the open positions that are available?
The President shall preside at all regular HSA meetings, appoint committees, call special meetings and gives the approval of the Executive Committee. The HSA President oversees all events, fundraisers and is the main communicate with the principal of St. Teresa School.
The Vice-President shall act in the President’s absence and assist the President in the discharge of his/her
duties as outlined above.
Recording Secretary shall prepare and send out the notices of regular HSA meetings. He/She shall keep a rec-ord of all meetings. Additionally, the secretary will submit the minutes to the Communications and Marketing coordinator who will disseminate through the website and online networking sites.
The Treasurer shall be the liaison between the HSA and the region/school. They shall receive and disburse all monies of the association and shall keep an accurate account of all receipts and expenditures, and report the current status of the Treasury at each HSA General Meeting. All checks will require the approval of the President. There will be an annual audit for the purpose of reviewing the current financial records of HSA. The Treasurer will act as liaison between the Executive Board and all committees regarding
money related to their events.
What is the process of election:
-A notification of nominations of open office positions will be declared before the March meeting.
-An official request for nominations will be presented at the March meeting.
Nominees will be posted on the website and social media networking sites.
-A closed ballot will provide the selection of the officers at the May/June meeting with results published on the website, social media sites, via email and letter to all families of St. Teresa Catholic School.
-Transition of officers will take place during the June-August time period.In addition to the executive board, there are openings for the Executive Committee Member positions.

The Executive Committee Members can be chosen/nominated/elected each school year. Committee members can serve for more than one school year if no other parent/guardian volunteers for that selected position. All executive committee members are expected to attend all events, activities, meetings and board meetings throughout the year.
Current position titles include-
Class Parent Liaison, Volunteer Coordinator, Media Coordinator and Special Events Coordinator, and Communications and Marketing Coordinator.
1. Class Parent Liaison – Coordinates and assists the class parents with their correspondence and overall duties. They liaison with the officers and attend board meetings to relay information to the class mothers regarding events and activities. Assists with the purchase of the teachers gifts, raffles for Christmas fair and Basket auction as well as the in room class parties.
3. Volunteer Coordinator – Responsible for staffing volunteers for all activities and events hosted by the HSA. Additionally, the volunteer coordinator takes attendance at meetings and tracks the points awarded to the volunteers for the hours served towards the Strive for Five.
4. Media Coordinator– Responsible for providing promotion of the events and activities to the print, online and televised media channels. Also responsible, when applicable, for providing photography.
5. Special Events Coordinator- Responsible for assisting the chair people of the events and activities with guidelines, answers to questions, proposal procedures, etc. Provides snapshot of events success to board.
6. Communications and Marketing Coordinator– Responsible for maintaining the social media sites as well as the web page for the HSA. To post and email all upcoming activities as well as market and promote all news, current events and announcements in various media outlets.

What are some of the events and fundraising activities that the board works on throughout the school year?
– Christmas Fair
– Basket Auction
– Plant Sale / Book Fair, Eighth Grade Graduation Party (7th Grade parents)
– Trunk or Treat
– Family events like Father/Son, Father/Daughter, Mother/Son, Mother/Daughter and Grandparents day
Other events and fundraising activities can be added to the school year as decided by the executive board.
