  • School Spirit

The online school spirit store is officially closed. We are waiting on a delivery date (2-3 weeks) and will announce as soon as we find out. Just as a reminder, purchasing a school spirit t-shirt, zip up hoodie, sweatshirt or hoodie entitles your child to a “gym bottom” dress down every Monday for the remainder of the school year.   We will announce a start date soon.

  • The HSA is in need of empty shipping boxes, rolls of wrapping paper, empty soda can case and of course, donations big and small.
  • Our Amazon Wish List has been created and new items are being added every day.
  • We are also looking for volunteers to bake for our Baked from The Heart table and dishes for our Christmas Cafe (each item donated counts towards your Strive for Five). Also, we are looking for donations for our Made from The Heart table as well.
  • Reminder to Class Parents – as previously mentioned, you are required to work either the Sat or Sun of the Christmas Fair or the Basket Auction. If you are planning on working the Christmas Fair – please let Rosalinda Cinquemani know.
  • Straws – there is a signup sheet here tonight for those who would like to earn some hours stuffing straws. Please see Sam Surat.
  • Mystery Book – was a hit at last year’s Basket Auction so we’ve decided to bring it in for the Christmas Fair as well. If you have any new or gently used books at home that you’d like to donate, please let us know.
  • Donation Request Letters – if you’d like to solicit for donations please feel free to take a few letters with you tonight. For every 5 donations obtained – 1 hour is earned towards Strive for Five.

Monsignor William Belford Greetings & Opening Prayer

–       Air Conditioning is working in the Gym

–       We are looking for donations to raise $250,000 to install air conditioners in the classroom

–       After we have installed AC in the school, we can place solar panels on the roof

 

Principal Rita Azzopardi Greetings & School Updates

–       We have Two new DOE PRE-K classrooms

–       70 students total for the new programs

–       We have switched our Math program to Ready Gen- we are no longer using Eureka.

–       We are implementing the usage of notebooks this school year to improve our handwriting skills, gross motor skills and organization techniques

–       Chrome books are still part of our curriculum – especially since our state tests are all online!

–       UNIFORM UPDATE:

-Girls are allowed to wear the White Polo (short sleeve) for both the Winter/ Spring Uniform

– SNEAKER: All sneakers must be either ALL White or All Black.   No label should be visible in another color. Light up sneakers are also not allowed!

-Discipline Policy – Our rules will be abided by and implemented daily

-The Math/ ELA test scores have not been sent out to families –

-She will ask regional for an update

-IRIS alerts will be sent out to all 8th grade families to keep you posted on TACH Exam schedules, practice tests and support groups

-Ms. Conway anticipates that all 8th Grade Students will be prepared for the tests

  • HSA Meeting Changes

Please note that HSA Meeting dates have been changed to Tuesday evenings & your NUT card dress down days will now be the day AFTER an HSA meeting. There are some exclusions – so always be sure to check the date on your card. Also, we are bringing back the uniform exchange. Going forward, if you have gently used and stain free pieces of uniform that you no longer need, you may bring them to an HSA meeting. We will have the bins out and you may take whatever you need from it !

The HSA asks our parents to step up and help out by volunteering a total of 5 hours throughout the school year.

Ways to Earn 5 Volunteer Hours:

  1. Work an Event – time worked is tracked by HSA
  2. Cook a Dish for the Christmas Fair – 1 hr per dish (2-3 dish min)
  3. Bake a Treat for the Christmas Fair – 1 hr per treat (2-3 treat min)
  4. Stuff Straws for Christmas Fair – 1 hr per box
  5. Attend an HSA Meeting – .5 hr per meeting
  6. Become a Class Parent – 5 hours automatically fulfilled (however participation at the Christmas Fair or Basket Auction is necessary)
  7. Become a Lunch Parent – 5 hours automatically fulfilled !
  8. Solicit Donations for Christmas Fair/Basket Auction – 1 hr per donation

We also understand that there isn’t always time available in everyone’s busy schedules to volunteer. For that reason, if you are unable to help in any of the ways listed above, you will be billed at the end of the school year in the amount of $75.00.

  • All In One Payment

The All In One Payment was put in place as an easier way for our parents to contribute to class parties & activities. Rather than asking for a small donation every few weeks we’ve put together the options below.

Option #1 – $25 per child due by October 28th. This payment covers:

  1. Class Halloween Party $2.00
  2. Class Thanksgiving Party $2.00
  3. Class Christmas Party $3.00
  4. Class Donation / Christmas Fair Basket $6.00
  5. Christmas Gift for Teachers $12.00

An addition payment of $25 per child will be due by February 1st. This payment covers:

  1. Class Valentines Day Party $2.00
  2. Class Easter Party $2.00
  3. Class Donation / Basket Auction $6.00
  4. End of Year Class Party $3.00
  5. End of Year Teachers Gift $12.00

Option #2 – Full payment of $50​ per child due by October 28th. This payment covers all of the above listed parties/activities.

  • Class Parents

If you are interested in becoming a Class Parent, please read over the handouts on the tables. There are some new responsibilities that have been added this year. For example, sharing via email with the parents in your class the minutes from the most recent HSA meeting. The minutes will be provided to you by Rosalinda Cinquemani, our Class Parent Coordinator. Also, Class Parents are now expected to work either the Christmas Fair on Saturday or Sunday OR the Basket Auction.

  • Safer Spaces Training

If you are chosen as a Class Parent, you will be required​ to attend the Safer Spaces Training which is being held directly after the October 15th HSA Meeting. The training lasts for approximately half an hour. If you have not completed this training previously – your attendance is mandatory.

  • Mondays will be School Spirit Dress Down! The store will be opened online by the end of the week!

The online school spirit store can be accessed by logging onto www.teestyles.com. It will be open for purchases before the end of the week. Will will announce the day via IRIS alert. The store will remain open for two weeks ! Please note that your child(ren) may not dress down on Monday’s until an official date is announced by Principal Azzopardi. In order to participate in School Spirit Dress Down – you must purchase a 2019-2020 tee shirt. The only exception to this is if you purchased a crew neck sweatshirt, hoodie or zip up hoodie last year. These items may be worn again. You MUST wear a gym bottom (school gym shorts or school gun sweatpants!) A Reminder will be sent home on when we will start School Spirit Mondays!

Welcome back to all STS Families!

The STS Home and School Association has been working over the summer to prepare for the school year ahead!  We have planned some great events and hope that all families will participate!

Our first HSA Meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 10th at 7pm.

Monsignor Belford –

  • The Arch Care facility in the convent is in the process of interviewing potential candidates for occupancy. Move in dates are scheduled for the Fall.
  • The facility will have 2 facilitators that will be available to assist the residents.

Air Conditioning Update:

The gym air conditioners were installed successfully

-We would like to move onto Phase 2, which consists of installing air conditioners in the classrooms. We are looking to raise $250,000 for the project. We are in need of large donations for completion.

      • You will be notified soon if your child falls in this category.

This is your last opportunity to earn your Strive for Five hours. All families that did not meet the Strive for Five requirement will receive a bill for $75.00 from the school office.

    • The Cooking Class registration is now full
    • ELA Test Prep Flyers were sent home
    • Yearbook Ads are available
    • Lost and Found is located in the cafeteria – please come in and check it out!
    • 3K program registration is now open – visit http://www.myschools.nyc.gov.
      • This is a free program for 3 years olds that is modelled after our UPK program.
      • It is a five full day program
    • The tuition – based PK 3 with Ms. Simon will also still be available.

    • We raised over $2000 in Scholastic Dollars which benefits each and every classroom at STS

January HSA Meeting Minutes

Minutes from 1/7 & 1/8:

Welcome and opening prayer from Monsignor Belford –

  • Gave an update on the Archcare/ Convent- Archcare is a Non-profit organization.
  • There will be a solid fence surrounding the building with 4 parking spaces allotted to the facility.  If you have any questions, please contact Monsignor in the rectory.
  • We are still raising money for Air Conditioning- if any family member, friend or parishioner would like to make a considerable donation, please contact the school
  • The new units will provide both heating and cooling in the classrooms

  • Catholic School Week was a HUGE success!
  • We had a wonderful turn out for Grandparents Day.
  • We are in the process of starting After School Programs – if you have any suggestions or activities that you would like to present, please call the school office
  • Registration for September opened on Thursday.
  • Yearbooks are now available to be ordered. Each class is featured in the yearbook!

Christmas Fair

  • Thank you to all who participated, volunteered, donated, baked, cooked and set up.
  • We raised over $17,000

  • 2017-2018 Yearbooks are on sale for $20 in the office if you are interested

On behalf of the Holy Name Society, I would like to extend my sincere thanks for your generosity in previous years by purchasing a Christmas Tree for our annual “Christmas Tree Remembrance.”  We hope that you will again consider participating in this event, as we usher in the Christmas season in grand style. A Christmas Tree Order Form is available in our school office and at the rectory. If you are interested, please fill out the form and send it along with your payment to the Rectory.  Given the high demand and limited supply, we ask that all forms be submitted by no later than Friday, November 16th.
This year’s Christmas Tree lighting will occur on Saturday, December 8th, immediately following the 4pm Mass.

 

HSA October 11th Meeting

We Welcomed Our New Principal, Mrs. Rita. Azzopardi

  • For the past four years, Mrs. Azzopardi has been our 3rdGrade Teacher
  • Her three daughters all attended St. Teresa’s
  • Azzopardi shared that Catholic School Values are Very Important for All Our Children
  • Brianne Winters is our New 3rd Grade Teacher

LUNCH PROGRAM

-Mr. Territo will be providing our lunch program once again.  He was not able to make the online ordering system start up again this coming week but will hopefully have it for the following week.  Stay tuned!

-The School Store is currently Closed. We will try to re-open in Spring.

-if you have placed an order, they will arrive on/before October 29th.

Family Fun Run

-We had a great turn out and Our So Grateful To Our St. Teresa Families for coming and supporting our school

All In One Payment

-Accepting partial and full payments until November 1st

-The Money will be allocated for various celebrations, parties and activities for the

classrooms.

Participation is not mandatory, but is much appreciated !

There are two options for you to consider:

Option 1- $50.00 full year payment. This payment is due by November 1st and covers all class parties (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter and End of Year). It also covers the class donation to the schools Christmas Fair and Gift for Teacher as well as the class donation to the Basket Auction and End of Year Teacher gift.

Option 2- $25.00 partial payment. The first installment of $25.00 is due by November 1st. It covers the Thanksgiving and Christmas Party, the class donation to the Christmas Fair and the Gift for Teacher. The second installment of $25.00 is due by February 1st. It covers the Valentine’s Day, Easter and End of Year party as well as the class donation to the Basket Auction and End of Year Teacher gift.

HSA Meetings

All HSA Meetings begin at 7pm and are held in Lower Church Hall (lunchroom). For your convenience, there will be a morning meeting in November and again in February. Be sure to attend in order to receive credit towards your Strive For Five hours and to earn a N.U.T. card (no uniform today) for your child. Obtaining a N.U.T. card entitles your child to a dress down day on the date specified. This dress down is a full dress down, not a gym uniform only dress down like School Spirit Days. Nut card must be brought to school on the day of the dress down.

Welcome Back

Mrs. Simione welcomed us all back for another school year.

  • There is a new drama club (2 shows for the year, new techniques)
    • On Monday, September 17th there will a drama club meeting to discuss lowering the fees
  • Spoke about our new school store (school spirit apparel)
    • Fridays will now be School Spirit Day (You can wear STS Spirit T- Shirt, Pull over Sweatshirt, Zip – Up Sweatshirt)

We can’t believe its almost that time again- BACK TO SCHOOL!

The Home and School Association board has already met this summer to go over ALL of the fun and exciting events and activities we have planned for the 2018/2019 school year!

Please be sure to Save the Date for our first HSA meeting which will take place on Monday, September 10th at 7pm in the St. Teresa Gym.

For all the new parents to STS, welcome to STS!  This first meeting is very important and we hope you can attend!  This meeting is where you will get to meet all the HSA board members, receive tons of information on the events and activities like the 3 day Christmas Fair, the Parent/Child events, and more!  Also, this is where you will get a chance to mingle with other parents in your child(rens) class as well as nominate or run for Class Parent!

So enjoy the last bit of summer and we hope to see everyone on the first day of school at the HSA Welcome table and at our HSA meeting!
